Avoiding (or Surviving) the Radiation Oncology Audit
Presenters: Cindy C Parman and Ron Digiaimo - Revenue Cycle, Inc.
Whether it is a standard internal policy, a result of the Affordable Care Act or a separate initiative, insurance payors are increasing their audits with the goal of reducing or eliminating fraud, waste and abuse. In addition, both governmental and commercial payors recover billions of dollars in refunds on an annual basis.
An effective compliance program detects and eliminates coding and billing risks through an internal auditing and monitoring program. This may include an understanding of modifier application, medically unlikely edits, Medicare Local Coverage Determinations, other payor policies and other coding guidelines and regulations.
This session will review common areas of misunderstanding that may result in an audit or investigation. True coding compliance means that the physician, facility or cancer program has “audit-proofed” their documentation, coding and billing practices. Attendees will leave this session with an understanding of compliance and tools to survive in the Age of Audits!
